Koh Samui is the island of thousands of coconut trees and the third largest island in Thailand. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand, 700 km South of Bangkok. There is a 55 kilometer long ring road on the island which makes it convenient to travel from beach to beach.
Well known beaches are Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Big Buddha, Choeng Mon, Hua Thanon and Maenam. Samui do also has many sister islands; Koh Tao (top diving destination in Asia), Angthong National Marine Park, Koh Tan and the spectacular Koh Nang Yuan.
The airport on Koh Samui was built in 1989 and it was renovated in 2007. It is often considered as one of the most beautiful and exotic airports in the world. The most popular beach on Koh Samui is Chaweng and it is located on the island's east coast. If you enjoy beach activities, there is no problem to engage in jet ski riding, banana boat riding, water skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing or parasailing. It is also possible to rent a kayak or a canoe.
Lamai beach also offers a variety of water sports including jet ski, water skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, parasailing and you are also able to rent a motorboat for a private tour. Bo Phut beach is about three kilometers long and has a relatively fine-grained sand and coconut palm trees at it's side. Maenam Beach: This beach is an excellent holiday destination if you are traveling with children or if you just want to just relax.
Dining on the Islands: On this island you will of course find the traditional Thai food, not rarely with a noticeable curry and chili sting. International restaurants and cuisines such as Japanese, American, Italian, Swedish, Korean, English, Chinese, Spanish, German, Indian etc. are of course also found on this island.
Spas on the Islands: There are nowadays many world class spas on the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. In fact, especially Samui has a reputation of being one of the best spa destinations and islands in South East Asia.
Santiburi Samui Country Club: This is an excellent 18 hole course that you should not miss if you are a golf enthusiast. It is surrounded by coconut palm trees and you will have a stunning view from these hills, overlooking the turquoise ocean and the Phangan island in the north. This is a true dream course for most golfers, but it might be a real challenge for the beginner. A driving range is also found in the area, close to the first tee.
Royal Samui Golf & Country Club: A beautiful golf course situated in north Lamai, overlooking Ao Tong Takian and Lamai. Small greens and narrow fairways.
Snorkling and Diving: On Koh Samui and Koh Tao you will find some of the best diving sites in the Southeast Asia region. The largest concentration of diving operators are found at; Sairee Beach (Koh Tao), Bophut Beach and Chaweng Beach (Koh Samui). The water is rich in colorful corals and has an impressive fish life. We recommend you to try a snorkeling trip to Angthong National Marine Park or a weekend on the beautiful island of Koh Tao.
Kayaking and windsurfing: You can rent the equipment on the most popular beaches or at many of the resorts on the islands. Jet Skis are fun too.
