First Among Perfect Equals with Two Slices of Zermatt’s Seventh Heaven
Published on 30/03/2020 by Finest Holidays - Luxury Travel
Finest Holidays – Luxury Travel is proud to present two wonderful luxury chalets, Chalet Kilimanjaro and Chalet Denali in what is being widely acknowledged as the finest luxury development in the Alps, the 7 Heavens of Zermatt. These superlative luxury chalets are designed to deliver the perfect winter holiday experience in a rare and special location.
It is extremely unusual to find new developments in the heart of Europe’s top ski resorts, so the location of the 7 Heavens immediately demands your attention. The Sunegga funicular will have you up in the snows – or meadows – and skiing in just a few minutes, while all of Zermatt’s famous shopping, dining, and après is also right on your doorstep.
Zermatt: The Epitome of Swiss Style
Some modern Alpine ski resorts can feel a little lacking in character. Not so Zermatt, which has one of the longest histories of any resort. If your mountain fantasies have a foreground of chocolate-box houses and church spires then Zermatt has what you need.
The reason people came here towers over the village – and is beautifully framed in the windows of the 7 Heavens chalets. The Matterhorn has exerted a compelling pull on anyone who sees it since the dawn of human history.
That extended to “conquering” the slopes, and the long and often tragic story of ascending the Matterhorn (finally completed in 1865) is the start of the area’s mythic status as a sporting destination. The first hotel was opened in 1839, and the building is still in use today.
This heritage has been built on for nearly 200 years, and now Zermatt is a luxury year-round destination par excellence.
The skiing remains as fine as it ever was, and the scene that supports it is world class. There are five Michelin stars in the village, a rare pair for After Seven, and 1* Michelin dining venues Ristorante Capri, The Omnia and Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni. If you want to party after your dinner you can settle in for quiet drinks at Harry’s Ski Bar or something livelier in one of the clubby bars of the Hotel Post.
Chalet Kilimanjaro: The Height of Luxury
It is into this setting that 7 Heavens fit so well. Zermatt’s visitors are demanding, as are its civic authorities, so a new-build must be fitting to its surroundings and attractive to the world’s best-informed Alpine aficionados.
The 7 Heavens give all guests access to some shared facilities, including a truly world-class gym, and some lovely social spaces, but each chalet is a world apart, and a sizeable Alpine home in its own right: Chalet Kilimanjaro, for example, sleeps 12 guests in its 810m2 footprint.
Kilimanjaro is a four-story hymn to indulgence. Traditional wood and stone forms the backdrop for a super-comfortable luxury chalet where the huge, fireplace-focused living space will vie for your attention with a superb spa (hot tub, two steam rooms, and more), and entertainment tech that includes a cinema room and wired sound system.
Fabulous art is just the most obvious feature of the very clever interior design that effortlessly creates spaces that are both jaw-droppingly beautiful, and put-your-feet-up comfortable.
With six bedrooms, including a charming bunk room for four youngsters, Chalet Kilimanjaro is the place where perfect family memories can be made, always with a Matterhorn view.
The second new addition of the 7 Heavens Development is Chalet Denali. The name is the original Koyukon name for the Alaskan mountain that became known as Mount McKinley.
Again, the heights of luxury are scaled in Chalet Denali. Perhaps no chalet illustrates what a fine summer destination an Alpine resort can be, because Chalet Denali is beautifully reflective of the mountain light. The colors are light, warm, welcoming and perfectly suited to a textured design that has put the emphasis on natural elements – the designers emphasize the spiritual side of this luxury chalet, referencing Feng Sui and Zen, with their use of plants and nature-inspired art works.
There’s no compromise on the style, opulence or level of service though. Chalet Denali, which can host 12 guests in its 614m2 area, also has a huge spa with super-size hot tub, a wet lounge, a hammam, shower, and massage area. A yoga room will help you keep in mental and physical shape for the slopes or a summer hike.
