Mallorca’s best clubs and restaurants
Published on 18/04/2016 by Finest Holidays - Luxury Travel
Mallorca’s social scene is growing in size and diversity. Some big names have arrived on the clubbing scene. And diners can step out from their luxury villas to eat in everything from the most sophisticated Michelin-starred restaurants to charming rustic places that celebrate the traditional Mallorcan cuisine of wood grills and high quality sea food.
Here are 10 of the best spots to try this summer.
Restaurants:
1 – Simply Fosh, Palma
Its beautiful 17th-century building in Palma’s old town is a fantastic setting for Marc Fosh’s Michelin-starred brasserie.
In a 17th-century building in the heart of the old town, Marc Fosh’s Mediterranean brasserie has a Michelin star. Marc Fosh is known for his modern style, light and modern Mediterranean cuisine with clean flavours and seasonal ingredients. It’s great value too, with a set menu at lunchtimes.
2 – Es Verger, Alaró
British chef Rick Stein said the lamb he ate here was the best he’d ever had. Perhaps as a result you will certainly have to book if you want to follow in his footsteps to this charming farm restaurant in the northern interior of the island.
The dish that so thrilled Mr Stein was the paletilla de cordero, a shoulder of lamb slow-cooked in San Miguel beer. It’s great value, very welcoming, and you’ll enjoy the drive too.
3 – Andreu Genestra Restaurant, Capdepera
Newly starred by Michelin this year, Andreu Genestra’s restaurant has been getting rave reviews. Michelin called it the home of “the authentic flavours of the island” for its mix of traditional recipes with the very latest in gastronomic techniques.
All this attention – including a mention in the New York Times – means you’ll need to plan ahead to dine here. You could also visit Genestra’s other restaurant, Aromata, in Palma.
4 – Restaurant Es Fum, Costa d’en Blanes
There is a new chef, Rafael Sanchez, at Es Fum, the Michelin-starred restaurant in the St Regis Mardavall Hotel.
There’s a beautifully relaxed atmosphere on the terrace with its sea views. The taster menus are very highly rated, offering six, eight or 10 courses, and with vegetarian and junior options. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and the wine list includes some of the island’s finest vintages.
5 – Restaurant Jardín, Puerto Alcúdia
Macarena de Castro was the first female chef on Mallorca to win a Michelin star in 2012. She’s still producing fantastic, high-end dishes with very local roots at this attractive, off-the-beaten-track restaurant in the north of the island.
It’s a very contemporary space, with al fresco dining in a beautiful garden. Tasting menus are the best way to discover de Castro’s very personal and modern take on Mediterranean and Mallorcan cuisine that benefits from Macarena’s off-season jaunts to the world’s best kitchens
Clubs and bars:
1 – Sky Bar, Palma
The Hostal Cuba has added a new dimension to its already popular set of bars and clubbing spaces in Palma. The Sky Bar is as high as it sounds and it’s a fantastic place to look out over Palma’s old town and the bay beyond.
The hotel’s been here since 1904, but was unveiled as a refurbished boutique hotel last year, and is already popular. Head to the top of the house for a cocktail at sunset and enjoy live music and DJs throughout the summer.
2 – Nikki Beach, Palma
One of the biggest names in chilled-out and stylish beach partying came to Mallorca in 2012. Nikki Beach is now definitely established as one of the must visit spots on the island.
There’s a range of entertainment – from an intimate dinner to a mad party – to be enjoyed, all in the super-luxurious Nikki Beach style. Great cuisine, spa and beauty treatments, top-notch music throughout the summer, complimentary yacht pick-ups… There are so many reasons to visit this beautifully situated beach club.
Mood Beach Club is more than just a simple beach hang out. With a cocktail bar and a sports bar, restaurants and champagne terrace, there is a place to suit all moods.
2 – Mood Beach Club, Puerto Portals
Mood has its own private beach with decking and beautiful soft sand. Just behind the beach, there’s lots more on offer: a pool, massage and beauty treatments, a sports bar, champagne terrace, and a restaurant serving high quality Asian-fusion cuisine. Look out for events at this friendly hangout.
3 – Puro Beach Club, Palma
A wonderfully versatile beach club offering everything from yoga and meditation to DJs and dancing.
Set on a little peninsula, Puro Beach has fabulous views and it’s one of the very best sunset spots on the island. A chilled-out and even healthy place to relax in the sun by day, as the sun sets the party starts. Easily accessible from Palma and with a yacht anchorage.
4 – Chi Lounge Mallorca, Palma
With its private beach and yacht service, Chi Lounge has a fantastic reputation with locals and visitors to the island alike.
It’s comfortable and friendly, but very exclusive, serving the best Far-Eastern food and premium drink brands, including a wonderful champagne selection. There are beach sports and ambient tunes during the day and livelier beats when the sun goes down.
5 – Nassau Beach Club, Portixol
Try the cocktails at this Palma beach club with its comfortable sun loungers enjoying a fabulous location on the white sands close to Palma.
Serving Asian-Mediterranean fusion food, the restaurant is good quality and entertainment also covers a great range, from flamenco to club music.
