Chamonix remains one of the most popular resorts in the French Alps. It has a long pedigree – hosting the debut 1924 Winter Olympics – but has moved with the times, remaining at the cutting edge of winter sports, fashion, shopping and having fun.

Chalet Colorado’s front door is just a few minutes’ walk from the center of this charming and historic resort. But Colorado’s private gardens and valley setting means it offers unbeatable seclusion when you want to get away into your own private world.

A large central living area is where you’ll spend most of your time. Perhaps dining at the large table, or lounging on the huge sofas that cluster around the open fireplace. Step outside to a large balcony that catches the sun and offers fantastic views of some of the most famous mountain scenery on the planet.

With nearly 300m² of space over three floors, there is lots of room for guests to enjoy Colorado. There are six bedrooms, all twin/king size doubles with en suite bathrooms. There are cots for the little ones. The rooms are decorated in light colors, with the traditional beams that are a feature throughout the chalet.

After a hard day on the slopes, a Jacuzzi, hot tub, sauna and massage room will help get the kinks out of your muscles. If you need to stretch yourself more, there’s a small exercise room.

Chalet Colorado has recently been refurbished. That means the very latest technology. There’s a large, flat-screen satellite TV with Sky channels (Russian TV available on request) and a DVD player. Dock your iPod and use the superfast ADSL and Wi-Fi internet.

A state-of-the-art kitchen opens onto the living area. You can enjoy cooking for your guests or sit back while the chef that comes as part of the catered deal rustles up wonderful menus for you.

All the practicalities are very well taken care of. There are laundry facilities in the ski and boot room, which has its own entrance, and there’s a private drive and private parking.

On the slopes of Mont Blanc, Chamonix has fabulous off-piste and snowboarding slopes alongside its miles and miles of rewarding pistes. With skiing from just over 1,000m to just short of 4,000m, there’s something for everyone.

The resort itself is busy and bustling by some Alpine standards. It retains its historic character though, this was one of the first winter sports resorts, and rural charm.

This is France, so expect wonderful cuisine, excellent shopping and very stylish entertainment. Try the Michelin-starred Le Bistrot, enjoy a drink in Elevation 1904, and dance the night away in Tof.

Chamonix and Chalet Colorado are easily accessible. Geneva is less than 100km away, with Swiss, British Airways, EasyJet, and Flybe all flying in. Chambery airport is just a little further.
